Hi, I'm James

I'm an in-training web developer, using javascript, typescript, ReactJS, postgreSQL and NodeJS. I've also started learning .NET with C#.

I find motivation when helping make tasks easier for people. I'm looking for a role where I can help build something to improve people's work or life when using IT.

I'm currently based in North Wales and am looking for a suitable entry-level coding job for somone with a coding bootcamp qualification, and a subsequenet 18 month+ independent learning and practice, using primarily React, with NodeJS and postgreSQL.

Things I've been working on

I've spent the last 18+ months working with technologies I learned on a coding bootcamp in the spring of 2020

WAYWT Aggregator

A full-stack website, which aggregates posts from Reddit and then allows users to filter through posts at their leisure. Techs used:

  • React
  • Typescript
  • ASP.NET
  • C#
  • Material-UI
  • MongoDB

MFA Helper

A full-stack website, using the PERN stack (postgreSQL, Express, ReactJS, and NodeJS). I've also utilised:

  • AWS
  • Firebase
  • Netlify
  • Heroku
  • Material-UI
  • ChartJS

(I'm trying to find a way to make buying t-shirts easier for men that find shopping a chore)

Blood Donation App

I helped to create this full-stack ReactJS application with a team during my bootcamp in Haifa, Israel.

The app was eventually further developed and is now used by Israeli citizens to organise their blood donations.

I primarily worked with Mapbox to create an interactive map that allows users to find nearby donation locations and plan their trip. More details can be seen on this presentation video.

Clicking the gif image will take you to an earlier working version of the app (however it doesn't have access to the blood donation servers so has very limited functionality).

Does Anyone Else?

A quick codesandbox demo I made to try out typescript. The concept is to ask/answer questions and learn new information about personality traits. I thought it could be a fun way for people with ADHD to find out about themselves, others, and the latest understanding of ADHD.

For the comments section I managed to use recursion to generate nested comments (I'm still not quite sure how it works but it does!)

Other coding activities

Here are some other things I've got involved with

WebAhead

I spent 4 months in the spring of 2020 learning full-stack with javascript and postgreSQL. Webahead is based in Israel, and is affiliated through Founders and Coders (bootcamp based in Islington, London).

Youtube Channel

I made some very novice attempts at YouTube tutorials to help others code.
